Two cuddly companions recently paid a visit to CUCS’ Delta Manor transitional housing program for homeless men with mental illness. Aside from their undeniable cuteness, it was apparent the immediate influence the dogs had on the residents.
There have been a lot of exciting changes happening at CUCS. Our agency continues to grow as our services continue to expand and we’re thrilled to be able to reach even more people in need in New York City. One of our expanding services is the Care Management program and we sat down with Adina Barbosa, Deputy Chief Program Officer, to find out more about the program and what these changes mean for our agency and those we serve.
To many of us, summertime brings an abundance of fun: beach outings, summer sports, and more time outdoor to enjoy the warm weather and company of others. Thanks to Whole Foods Market, summer got even more exciting for two of our transitional living programs, Delta Manor and The Kelly. The two programs received donations from local Whole Foods Market stores and what may seem like simple donations became the perfect opportunity for laughter, relaxation and community bonding.
For quite a few people, their chosen career becomes an integral part of who they are and how they see themselves. For others, the barriers to gainful employment become too many and too difficult to overcome without help. But everyday, the Career Network at CUCS provides many clients with encouraging help to overcome their barriers.
For the past four years, our Janian Medical Care has gathered a group of formerly homeless men and women who received psychiatric services to serve on the PPOH Consumer Advisory Board (CAB). Members directly interact with individuals, using their lived experience of mental health challenges and homelessness to connect, engage and support others facing similar situations.
