With the baby boomer generation aging, homelessness among the elderly has been front and center in the media. Studies continue to show the detrimental impact that life on the streets has on the homeless population, and the exacerbation homelessness has on health issues. Elderly homeless people have significantly different needs compared to other homeless populations. CUCS created an initiative to focus on older formerly homeless people living in supportive housing. We sat down with Joe DeGenova, our Associate Executive Director, to discuss how our primary care initiative is helping the elderly adults.

A whole decade and twenty graduates later, the Mental Health Scholarship Program awarded by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) continues to be a wonderful opportunity for our staff and agency alike. The program represents the core of what our organization stands for, investing in training staff members to become great professionals and leaders in the field.
Thousands of volunteers dispersed throughout New York City this past Monday night in the city’s annual Homeless Outreach Population Estimate (HOPE) count. A total of 20 people represented CUCS, including Moira Flavin, our Manager of Institutional Giving. We sat down with Moira to learn more about the HOPE count and her experience canvassing the streets of Brooklyn for the second time during one of the coldest nights of the year.
We're excited to recognize the outstanding work of Delta Manor! CUCS took over the transitional housing program last February and this is the first time that the Delta Manor, under any management, has ever hit its target for housing placement.
