Promoting Wellness: 2016 Health and Sustainability Fair
October 12, 2016

Health and wellness are a priority to CUCS. They are part of our core programs and goals in rebuilding the lives of thousands of New Yorkers, and also why we love promoting healthy living at every opportunity. The Prince George supportive housing community recently held the Health and Sustainability Fair and what a success it was!

The Health and Sustainability Fair is an annual event held in the lobby of the Prince George. It brings together health care and wellness providers from all over New York City, where they conduct various on-site health screenings and provide information on substance abuse, therapy, and mental health treatment.

Sponsored by CUCS and Breaking Ground, this year’s fair was held on Wednesday, September 21st and included over 15 vendors focused on promoting healthy and sustainable living habits. CUCS clients, who have often slipped through the cracks of the healthcare system for many years, find the fair to be exceptionally informative and helpful as they work towards leading healthier lives.

Provider tables were set up throughout the magnificent lobby of The Prince George, which included United Healthcare, SUNY College of Optometry, Ryan/Chelsea Clinton Clinic, Memorial Sloan – Kettering Cancer Center, and NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. They provided participants with free blood pressure, diabetes, HIV, and Hepatitis C screenings, as well as information and resources on nutrition and wellbeing.

Participants also took part in several classes promoting healthy lifestyles, including a healthy cooking class, a fitness class and a yoga class.

Aside from the on-site medical testing and classes, participants were also treated to lunch, raffles and giveaways, and new interactive activities. Check out the slideshow below for more pictures from the event!
