We are delighted to announce the opening of Kingsbridge Heights Apartments, a $70.5 million affordable housing development along the Jerome Avenue corridor in the Kingsbridge Heights neighborhood of the Bronx. The development includes 135 apartments for families and individuals with 40 apartments reserved for formerly homeless families who will receive CUCS’s acclaimed support and services.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a cause that is integral to the work that we do here at CUCS. We sat down with Director of Psychiatry Tony Carino to discuss the work that our signature healthcare program, Janian Medical Care, does to provide psychiatric support to people impacted by homelessness. We also explored in depth how all our program areas are designed to address mental health needs, both individually and as a system.
In honor of National Volunteer Month, we are celebrating all the incredible work that volunteers do at CUCS! Volunteers are involved in many aspects of our work, from doing arts and crafts with residents at our transitional housing sites to helping our Career Network participants with interview preparation. There’s no one way to volunteer, but there are lots of ways to make a difference.
March is a month-long celebration of women and social workers and at CUCS, we’ve got every reason to celebrate the intersection of the two with all the incredible women social workers that move our agency forward. We’re excited to feature one of them, Alex Francis, CUCS’s Deputy Chief Program Officer, who sat down with us to share her captivating story on the evolution of her career and how it has shaped her into the person she is today.
