Opioid overdoses are on the rise and the risk for opioid overdose death is particularly elevated for the population of clients CUCS serves. In our efforts to combat the epidemic, CUCS’ Janian Medical Care runs a special program – the Opioid Overdose Prevention Program (OOPP) – dedicated to educating and training staff, clients, and community members on opioid overdose reversal.
On any given night in New York City, approximately 60,000 homeless men, women and children live in one of the many shelters spread across the five boroughs. As a nod to those 60,000 people, New York City based sock company Bombas organized a special event on February 28th called 60K Day. CUCS was fortunate enough to be selected as a partner for 60K Day, receiving donations and a dozen volunteers!
Tax season is upon us and CUCS is here to help! For a fourth consecutive year, CUCS’ Single Stop program is offering free virtual tax preparation services on-site at the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) hospitals in New York City to low and moderate-income veteran households.
For the past four years, Janian Medical Care has gathered a group of formerly homeless men and women who received its psychiatric services to bring their experiences to the table to better connect, engage and support others facing similar situations. Part of Janian’s Project for Psychiatric Outreach to the Homeless (PPOH), the group known as the Consumer Advisory Board (CAB) conducted a winter outreach on December 16th at The Church of the Holy Apostles in Chelsea with a remarkable turnout.
