The Rikers Island Single Stop provides free, confidential assistance in the following areas:

• Benefits Assistance - Using the online "Entitlements Calculator," Single Stop staff work with individuals to determine which benefits they are eligible for and then assists them in securing those that they are not already receiving.
• Legal Assistance - Single Stop has an attorney on-site to provide free legal advice and representation on a full range of legal matters, including: criminal justice, housing, benefits, immigration, etc.
• Preparation of Social Security Benefits Applications - Single Stop staff will assist in the submission of Social Security applications, including conducting psychiatric assessments
• Financial Counseling - Single Stop has staff from a nonprofit credit counseling organization on-site to assist individuals in developing budgets and resolving credit problems.
• Tax Preparation - Single Stop provides on-site screenings to determine eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and referrals for free tax preparation.
• Short-term Counseling and Referral Services - Single Stop staff are available to provide short-term counseling and provide referrals for help addressing issues such as domestic violence, mental illness, substance use and other issues that are affecting the function of the individual.
