PPOH Services
Services provided at each site, include:
- Outreach and Engagement – Because many people who are most in need of psychiatric services are unwilling or unable to seek help, PPOH uses formal and informal interactions to outreach to and engage mentally ill consumers in effective therapeutic relationships
- Psychiatric Evaluation – Provides a diagnostic formulation that guides treatment and establishes eligibility for housing and entitlement applications
- Psychiatric Treatment – Provides ongoing interventions designed to achieve and maintain psychiatric stability that enables consumers to seek and maintain housing, benefits and services
- Entitlement Assistance – Assists program staff apply and advocate for housing, benefits and services
- Education – Provides information that improves consumers’ ability to collaborate with psychiatrists and other service providers
- Consultation and Technical Assistance – Collaborates with program staff to formulate consumer service plans, to develop strategies for helping mentally ill consumers achieve psychiatric stability and to develop on-site systems to support psychiatric practice
In addition to these direct services, PPOH works to improve the field of community psychiatry by:
- Training Psychiatrists – Provides clinical rotations and trainings for psychiatrists, including residents and fellows, to teach about the challenges and opportunities associated with on-site, community psychiatry in non-traditional settings
- Recruiting Psychiatrists – Develops expertise in and commitment to community psychiatry, including volunteers, who provide psychiatric services on-site at programs in the community serving homeless or formerly homeless persons. Psychiatrists are committed to sites providing continuity of services and stability that is invaluable for this population.
