Opened in December 2011, the Lenniger Residences is a 92-unit, 2-building supportive housing development in the East Tremont Section of the Bronx. It provides homes for low income and formerly homeless individuals and families.
One of CUCS principal design priorities was to build environmentally friendly and sustainable green buildings. Lenniger tenants enjoy aesthetically pleasing apartment design, landscaping and many amenities including a computer room with internet access, a fitness room, a multipurpose room, and laundry facilities. The project received the Queens and Bronx Builders Association 2011 Building Award for Excellence in Design and Construction.
With the review process almost complete, the Lenniger Residences are poised to achieve LEED Gold Certification. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an internationally recognized mark of excellence that provides developers with a framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions. In addition to LEED certification, the Lenniger Residences expect to receive ENERGY STAR Certification as well. This certification is administered through NYSERDA’s Multifamily Performance Program and focuses primarily on the buildings’ energy use.
In order to achieve these high standards, the Lenniger Residences incorporated the following green features:
- A Combination of High Albedo and Green Roofs
- High Efficiency Boilers
- Enhanced Insulation
- Energy Efficient Lighting
- Energy Star Appliances
- Water-Conserving Plumbing Fixtures
|
- Continuous Fresh Air Circulation
- Building Materials with Recycled Content
- Low VOC Paint
- Permeable Paving Systems
- Non-Invasive and Drought Resistant Plants
