The Affirmative Business and Industry Cleaning and Light Maintenace Program prepares individuals with mental illness for competitive employment as maintenance workers. Individuals will be trained for 15 hours weekly over a period of 16 weeks. During this time, trainees will work with a Superintendent at a Postgraduate Center for Mental Health building and learn general maintenance functions. The Superintendent will provide skill training and monitor the trainee's progress. Trainees will master such basic skills as general cleaning(including vacuuming,dusting and polishing furniture)requirements for recycling trash in New York City, floor stripping, wall repairs and painting, minor plumbing repairs and minor electrical work. Trainees will also learn minor carpentry and how to hang things safely on the wall. |
It is expected that trainees will be prepared to obtain employment as a cleaning person or building maintenance person at the end of the 16-week training. A job developer will work with the trainee to assist in obtaining competitive employment. Typical Opportunities might include: Jobs in offices, universities and retail locations for nightly cleaning. Jobs in residential locations working as handymen or porters. Jobs with cleaning services who supply scheduled work. Referral Process: All trainees must be in a treatment program and have to be referred by their treatment provider. Individuals who are not in treatment, but would like to join the program can contact Postgraduate and arrange for clinical treatment. LAUNCH provides classroom instruction, specialized workshops, and individual support and guidance to aspiring business owners and also those with existing businesses. This three month training course covers all aspects of starting a small business from writing a business plan to selling your idea to understanding business accounting and finance. |

IMPRINTS is a vocational training program that teaches clients the art of digital printing. Clients receive three months of hands-on instruction and training in an on-the-job setting, after which they are placed in jobs in the print industry. The training sessions occur Mon-Thurs from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in midtown at one of our facilities. Trainees receive a small stipend to cover the cost of transportation to/from training and a snack. |
