Gifts of Securities

Gifts of Securities (stocks, bonds, mutual fund shares, etc.) can benefit both you and CUCS. By making a gift of assets that have appreciated in value, such as stocks, you can avoid capital gains taxes. Knowing the cost basis (how much you paid) for your stock is important in determining how much you will save. By donating any security held for more than one year, you can take an income tax charitable deduction equal to the full value of the donated stock. Moreover, you will have no capital gains tax obligation on the donated stock. If you would like to discuss a gift of stocks or bonds, please call, Paul Howard, Director of Development at 212-801-3344 or send an e-mail to Phoward@cucs.org

Bequests

To make a lasting difference in the lives of our most fragile citizens, you may consider making a donation through a will, trusts, and/or life insurance gifts. A bequest may take several forms. It can be a specific sum, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder of your estate after expenses and gifts to loved ones. Living trusts are a popular choice because the terms of a living trust, unlike a will, can be put into effect immediately upon your death, bypassing probate and keeping the terms private. In certain cases of larger estates, a bequest to charity may reduce the value of the estate enough to minimize or eliminate the estate tax. If you would like to learn more about making a gift through your will or living trust, please call, Paul Howard, Director of Development at 212-801-3344 or send an e-mail to Phoward@cucs.org
